Asia Carrera, born Jessica Steinhauser on August 6, 1973, in New York City to a German father and Japanese mother, is an American former pornographic actress. Raised in Little Silver, New Jersey, she excelled academically as a spelling bee champion and Mensa member with an IQ of 156. Facing parental pressures, she ran away at 17, attempted suicide, and left Rutgers University to dance and model in Los Angeles. Entering the adult industry in 1993, she starred in over 350 films, winning the 1995 AVN Female Performer of the Year—the first Asian recipient—and a 2000 AVN Best Couples Sex Scene award.
