Casey Donovan, born John Calvin Culver on November 2, 1943, in East Bloomfield, New York, was a pioneering American gay pornographic actor who became one of the first true superstars in the adult film industry. Rising to fame during the Golden Age of Porn in the early 1970s, he starred in the landmark film Boys in the Sand in 1971, which cemented his status as a gay icon thanks to his boy-next-door charm, natural good looks, and enthusiastic on-screen presence. Prior to his adult career, Culver briefly taught Latin and worked as a highly paid male model. He appeared in numerous gay-oriented adult films throughout the 1970s and 1980s while also pursuing theater roles and writing an advice column. Donovan passed away on August 10, 1987, at age 43 from AIDS-related complications in Florida, leaving a lasting legacy of sexual liberation.
