Darby Lloyd Rains, born Barbara on November 20, 1947, in Yorktown Heights, New York, is an American former pornographic actress and a pioneering figure in the golden age of adult films. Raised in a theatrical family with a Broadway actor father, she began as a nightclub singer in Greenwich Village before entering the industry around 1970 to supplement her income. Active from 1970 to 1978, she appeared in over 50 East Coast X-rated films, collaborating with directors like Gerard Damiano, Radley Metzger, and Joe Sarno.
Notable roles include leads in Naked Came the Stranger (1975), Sex U. S. A.
(1971), Memories Within Miss Aggie, and The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann. She also had an uncredited appearance as a stripper in the mainstream film The French Connection (1971). Described as versatile and comedic, Rains excelled in diverse personas.
After retiring due to a traumatic incident, she worked in production, formed a talent agency, and later founded a green cleaning company. She was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame and identifies as bisexual.
