Mimi Miyagi, whose real name is Melody Damayo, was born on July 3, 1973, in Davao City, Philippines, to conservative Seventh-day Adventist parents. A Filipino-American, she moved to the United States at age six and grew up in California. After attending high school in the Philippines and studying finance and economics briefly, she returned to Los Angeles, pursued fashion merchandising, but dropped out to work as a go-go dancer. In the mid-1990s, she entered the adult film industry and nude modeling, adopting the stage name 'Mimi Miyagi' inspired by her childhood nickname and the Karate Kid character.

She retired in 1996, moved to Nevada, married a former NFL player, and fought a legal battle over her domain name. In 1998, she featured in the documentary 'Strippers: The Naked Stages' and launched 'Oriental Dolls' magazine. After divorcing in 2003, she made a brief comeback in 'Happy Ending.' Retiring again in 2007, she appeared in mainstream films like 'Little Bruno' (2007) and 'Speed Dragon' (2013), and became a fashion reporter for Eyestrane in 2012.

She ran unsuccessfully for Nevada governor as a Republican in 2006 before joining the Libertarians. Complex ranked her #12 on its 'Top 50 Hottest Asian Porn Stars' list in 2011.
