Marland Anderson, professionally known as Sledge Hammer, was an American pornographic actor born on February 9, 1973, in Seattle, Washington. Relocating to Orange County, California, at age 12, he endured bullying in the affluent Mission Viejo community, spurring rigorous weightlifting from ages 12-17 to sculpt his 6'1", 259-pound muscular frame. Discovered by director Stoney Curtis in 1993 at a gym, he debuted in adult films around 1995, amassing over 800 titles, predominantly in interracial gangbangs for sites like Blacks on Blondes and Pink Visual’s Gangbang Squad. Renowned as a 'gentle giant' with a soft voice, childlike innocence, and passions for comics, superhero figurines, and sci-fi, he earned induction into the 2009 Urban X Awards Hall of Fame. Battling chronic insomnia, paranoia, low self-esteem, and substance issues, Anderson tragically died at 39 on April 13, 2012, after a mental health crisis escalated into a fatal police encounter involving tasers.
