John Anthony Bailey, better known by his stage name Jack Baker, was a pioneering African-American performer in the adult film industry. Born on June 4, 1947, in Ohio, he initially pursued mainstream acting, attending Merritt College in Oakland and appearing in TV shows like 'Mission: Impossible' (1969-1970), 'Happy Days' (1976), 'Good Times' (1975), and starring as C.C. McNamara in the children's series 'Wonderbug' (1976-1977). Film credits included 'Kentucky Fried Movie' (1977), 'Friday Foster' (1975), and 'Love at First Bite' (1979). Entering pornography in 1984 at age 37, under aliases B.J. Baily, Jack Bailey, and John Baker, he appeared in over 150 films such as 'New Wave Hookers' (1985), 'Hot Chocolate' (1984), 'The Devil in Miss Jones 3' (1986), 'Pretty Peaches 3' (1989), 'Debbie Class of '88' (1988)—earning an AVN nomination for Best Non-Sexual Performance—and directed 'Slut Safari' (1994). Diagnosed with bladder cancer in the late 1980s, he reduced sex scenes. Baker died on November 13, 1994, in Los Angeles at 47.
