Marilyn Chambers, born Marilyn Ann Briggs on April 22, 1952, in Providence, Rhode Island, U. S. , was an American pornographic actress, exotic dancer, model, actress, singer, and vice-presidential candidate.
Raised in a middle-class household in Westport, Connecticut, she graduated from Staples High School in 1970 and pursued modeling, notably as the "Ivory Snow girl." Her career began with a small role in The Owl and the Pussycat (1970), but she debuted in adult films with Behind the Green Door (1972), a hardcore film where she played Gloria Saunders without dialogue, marking an interracial sex scene and launching the porno chic era. She starred in Resurrection of Eve (1973) and returned for Insatiable (1980), the top-selling adult video from 1980-1982, inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame, followed by Insatiable II (1984).
Chambers crossed into mainstream with Rabid (1977) directed by David Cronenberg, and theater roles like Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1977). She sang the disco single "Benihana" (1976) and led the band Haywire. Personally, she married Doug Chapin (1971-1974), Chuck Traynor (1975-1985), and William Taylor, Jr.
(1991/92-1994), with one child; she overcame substance abuse. Chambers ran for vice president in 2004 (946 votes) and 2008. She died on April 12, 2009, in Santa Clarita, California, from a cerebral hemorrhage due to an aneurysm and heart disease; her ashes were scattered at sea.
