Bobby Astyr, whose real name was Robert Harvey Charles, was born on November 14, 1937, in New York City. He grew up in a conservative Jewish family and initially pursued a career as a jazz musician before transitioning to adult films in the mid-1970s. Astyr entered the porn industry in 1974 during the golden age of pornography.

Known for his comedic talents and distinctive appearance, he earned the nickname Clown Prince of Porn. He appeared in more than 140 films, showcasing his unique style and humor in various productions including Barbara Broadcast. In 1978 he met actress Samantha Fox on a film set beginning a long-term relationship that lasted until his death.

Astyr passed away on April 7 2002 in Manhattan from lung cancer at the age of sixty-four. His contributions to classic porn are remembered for bringing humor and personality to the screen making him a beloved figure in the industry with a lasting legacy.
